Disney World Resort Hop #3 - Contemporary Resort for Fireworks

Luke and Scarlett do not like fireworks. They are just too loud. Still, the 4th of July calls for fireworks, and I was hoping we could watch Disney's Celebrate America Concert in the Sky without too much trauma. Perhaps seeing them from across the lake, where they weren't to close, and under the monorail, which was a nice distraction, would make the experience fun - or at least tolerable - for the kids. Disney's Contemporary Resort seemed like a good place to try.

We fought traffic to reach the Contemporary about 20 minutes before the 9pm Fireworks show was set to begin (everyone else seemed to be headed to The Polynesian). We ended up rushing a bit to get to the fireworks viewing area on the hotel's 4th floor and so I didn't take any pictures. But we got there with minutes to spare and I armed the kids with glow sticks and Pop Rocks to make it more festive.

We could see Cinderella's Castle all lit up. Beautiful! Hard to photograph, though.

Soon, the show started. The music and sounds from the show were played over speakers on the viewing deck. It was just like being at the Magic Kingdom! The colors exploded over Space Mountain. It was awesome!

Luke and Scarlett were both cool, as long as Tom held them. Both. At the same time. Super Dad!

Scarlett actually ended up really liking the show. The booms were fun when they look like stars! Luke didn't love it, but he didn't panic either. The monorail made it better.

Before we left the resort, we spent some time browsing at Fantasia, the hotel's gift shop. Scarlett spent her time adoring the Princess items and Tom spent his time adoring the Star Wars items. Luke looked at every single pen and pencil (and there were a lot.) I checked out the new Magic Band merchandise.

Fun stuff!

We also took a peek at the arcade - the first of many on this trip that ended up being sort of an arcade hop as well!

The Contemporary was cool, and definitely the fanciest hotel I've been to that had lots of kids running up and down the stairs! It was fun to visit one of the original hotels at Walt Disney World. It was definitely a memorable Fourth of July!
